Angel flight 2 by Dave Laughton
"Saturday in Toowoomba was clear and calm, a perfect day for an Angel flight. Departing Toowoomba at 8.30 and arriving at Archerfield in good time, assistant Angel Rae and I set ourselves up under a shady tree beside the terminal building to await our precious cargo. Then a call on the mobile revealed that Earth Angel Ken had also found a shady spot to wait, in front of the terminal and just out of each other's sight. With that hiccough resolved and introductions completed we loaded up and set off north as temperatures steadily climbed. Jenny (Mum), although avowing to not be a great flyer, seemed to be enjoying the view as we stayed down low under the control zone steps just West of Brisbane. The two kids, Jessica and William, seemed pretty comfortable with the whole flying thing, both of them falling asleep soon after departure and staying that way for the bulk of the journey. As we were able we climbed out of the mild bumps to sit above some scattered cloud, and for the next 40 minutes that's where we stayed until deciding to descend below an increasing cloud cover for the last half hour into Bundaberg. Having enjoyed no delays anywhere we arrived a few minutes before Dad, and so were ready and waiting in the shade when he turned up, much to the delight of the whole family after their week away from home. All in all a good trip capped off by the final leg to Toowoomba, arriving back home in time for a slightly late lunch after only five hours away, 3.5 of them in the air." |
