MISSIONS 271 - ARCHERFIELD / GOONDIWINDI

(IN LOVING MEMORY OF BEAU GRIFFITHS)

Within three hours of a request from the Princess Alexandra Hospital to return a palliative care patient from Brisbane to his hometown of Goondiwindi, Angel Flight pilot Barry Arentz had eighteen year old Beau with end stage liver cancer and his mum in the air.

Read the lovely card supplied by Beau's family.

“A little extra time on this trip, due to the diversion around storms.

My lasting memory will be when Beau and I shook hands and he thanked me for my help. It was very hard to keep my emotions in check (for Beau's sake). I know the whole thing also had a very profound effect on Cheryl, so after organising ambulance access at Archerfield and helping our 'precious cargo' on board she returned to the office and left the flying to me.

Heart rendering as the whole experience was, both Cheryl and I are thankful we were in the position to deliver Beau's last wish.

Barry"

Beau and his mum Marie were transported by Queensland Ambulance to Archerfield and then from Goondiwindi Airport to their home at Coolibah.

Two days later Beau passed away.
