MISSION 91 - POREPUNKAH / ESSENDON / POREPUNKAH

SUBSEQUENT TRIP (9TH AND 10TH ANGEL FLIGHT) – Paul Ozols is 84 and receiving chemotherapy for cancer of the bone marrow. His first round of treatment promoted acute nausea and loss of coordination and was exacerbated after traveling by train and road to and from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in East Melbourne. This was Paul’s fifth mission. Paul’s treatment seems to be working however of late he tends to tire fairly quickly.

You can read about a previous Angel Flight mission for Paul (M86).

Angel Flight 1 report by Mike McFarlane

"Happy to report that Paul arrived at Essendon safely and was met by Pat from the Leukaemia Foundation at around 0920.

Sean Tibballs (co-pilot) and myself departed Essendon at 0705 and Paul Ozols was picked up at Porepunkah at 0800 as originally planned; we enjoyed a very smooth return flight to Essendon and received excellent co-operation from flight service on the return flight by using the prefix "Angel Flight".

Both Sean and I were privileged and very pleased to help Paul by undertaking this trip, with this being my first Angel Flight in "Oscar" . Very happy to assist you again when possible in the future."

Angel Flight 2 report by Richard Beer

"Due to forecast high winds and associated turbulence we arranged for Paul to be dropped at Moorabbin rather than Essendon by the Leukaemia Foundation - they were more than happy to oblige.

MB is further south of the ranges and gave us the chance to get higher before the rough stuff. Got above it quickly and had smooth conditions all the way until descending into Porepunkah.Quite an exciting little strip to visit - high terrain all around and a bit of a slope... oh, and trees at the end! Paul was a very good flyer and had actually done some glider and tiger moth flying years ago.

Paul's ride was waiting for us when we landed at the strip. Angel Flight organisation was fantastic, as was the Leukemia Foundation. Everyone made the day very easy for us and the patient. Remembered to use the Angel Flight callsign too."

Shaun Aisen kindly donated the use for his aircraft, a Cirrus SR20 VH-SJA, and fuel and also performed as co-pilot for this flight.
