MISSION 68 - PORPUNKAH / ESSENDON / PORPUNKAH

Paul Ozols is 84 and receiving chemotherapy for cancer of the bone marrow. His first round of treatment promoted acute nausea and loss of coordination and was exacerbated after traveling by train and road to and from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in East Melbourne. This was Paul’s second mission.

Paul's first Angel Flight.

Angel Flight 1 report by Hugh Hopkins

"Up at 4am and then the careful drive to MNG (last flight kangaroo strike) thence arguing with the bolshe hangar doors and finally off to YPOK by careful map reading. Beautiful valley scenery en-route but looking into the sun.

Early morning in the Buckland Valley was still and beautiful, the cattle grazing on the strip took no notice of the aeroplane and it was confirmed that YPOK was really a one way strip for the 310. Wish that I had taken a photo or two, it was spectacular.

Paul and carer Pam arrived, we left on time and had a scenic and smooth flight to Essendon - close-up mountains at first - central Melbourne at the end. Paul enjoyed the flight and was whisked away to his appointment.

Return to Mangalore for me was as uneventful. I hope the return flight for Paul was as smooth given the forecast increasing strength of north winds over the hills."
