MISSION 56 - KIMBA / PARAFIELD / KIMBA

A 14 year old boy living in Kimba, South Australia, having had an operation last August to remove his large bowel is in need of follow up appointments at the Womens and Childrens Hospital in Adelaide. He is experiencing bowel complications and consequent growth retardation from having inherited a cystic bowel. As a young child, and a result of another illness, he has also had a shunt shunt in place to remove fluid from around his brain. The family are finding the trips tiring and are under financial strain.

Warren Barrington- Pilot
Angel Flight 1 report by Warren Barrington

Left home 4.30 am for a 5.15 am departure. Weather was 15 knot winds with a 3500 cloud base so I altered my flight plan to go at 2500ft. As more than half of this trip is over water I would have preferred to go higher, specially in the dark, but it was not to be.

After activating the lighting I arrived at Kimba at 6.45 am and within 15 minutes, young Bradley arrived with his family - father Michael, brother Ryan, both of whom were staying, and his mother Nina and little sister Kasey who were accompanying him on his trip to Adelaide.

I had an Angel Bear for Bradley and his sister, so when I presented them I looked at his other brother Ryan and said I would try to get him one. At that moment Bradley put his arm around his brother and said "here Ryan, you take mine and I might get another one". It brought a tear to my eye to see this unfortunate sick boy with so much thought for someone else.

We loaded up and headed back to Parafield around 7.15 am, arriving at 8.30 am. A very smooth flight at 5500ft until forty minutes from Adelaide, then back down to 2500ft over the water. I landed smoothly (I knew I would one day).

When we alighted, the press from the Adelaide Advertiser were waiting and Nina and the kids spoke with them. Earth Angels, David and Marg were waiting too. Photos were taken and goodbyes were said and off they went to Ronald McDonald House with the Earth Angels.

As I do these trips, I keep meeting lovely people.

David Carter - Earth Angel

Earth Angel report by David & Marg

We picked up young Bradley, his mum Nina and little sister Kasey. A delightful family who had travelled well in flight and enjoyed the comfort of our vehicle. Bradley brightened up as he sat in the front with David (our driver for this trip). They were greeted at Ronald MacDonald House, and the children, clutching their Angel Bears, both seemed to be settled into their second home. Kasey and Bradley went looking for other 'previous friends' they had made before.

On their return trip, Marg gave the children a small gift each. Kasey received some pink glittery hair clips and Bradley, a cap.

We look forward to transporting the family again on their next visit.

Susan Chase - Pilot

Angel Flight report 2 by Susan Chase

Completed my first Angel Flight in perfectly calm weather. Bradley, his mother Nina and sister Kasey enjoyed the flight. We departed Parafield at 8.30 am and arrived at Kimba at 9.40 am, doing a circuit of the town so Bradley could see his house and school from the air.

Bradley was presented with his Angel Bear. Thank you for the opportunity to help.
