MISSION 169 - ARCHERFIELD / THARGOMINDAH

SUBSEQUENT TRIP (8TH ANGEL FLIGHT) – This was the EIGHTH Angel Flight for Mitchell and the third mission specifically for his treatment.

Mitchell needed further heart surgery to correct a blood flow problem to his right lung (narrow veins). The operation went well and the surgeon expects very good results. Mitchell spent a couple of days in ICU then transferred to special care where he was under observation over seven to ten days. Great news! Mitchell has been given a clean bill of health, is now out of hospital and safely home.

On this occasion Rebecca and Alister made their way back to Thargomindah by road and, so as to not have him experience discomfort so soon after heart surgery, wisely requested an Angel Flight for Mitchell.

Rebecca, Mitchell and Alister used to undertake a regular gruelling 15 hour drive, by car, to Brisbane then back. Until Angel Flight, Rebecca has had no other affordable means of transport. Open heart surgery was performed on Mitchell late 2003. Four days later the Mitchell suffered a stroke and has been receiving follow-up treatment at the Mater Children’s Hospital.

You can read about a previous Angel Flight mission for Rebecca and the boys (M98).

Angel Flight 1 by Cheryl Arentz

"Beth, Mitchell’s grand mother, and Mitchell were ready for a early departure at 7.00 am. Beth performed Earth Angel duties for this trip. Cheryl was pilot for the trip out to Thargomindah and Barry for the return trip to Archerfield.

Mitchell was rugged up for the early morning flight as it was quite cold at Archerfield. Flight was at 6000ft and smooth all the way. This is our third trip with the Twins and have been blessed with good weather each time. Mitchell was a great passenger with his grandmother Beth giving him breakfast, playing with him and giving many loving cuddles along the trip.

Mitchell's mum Rebecca and twin brother Alister met us at the airport at Thargomindah with a very much appreciated morning tea. Mitchell was greeted by his twin brother with a big hug and kiss and it’s great to see them both together again."

"When did this little fella fly in?"

"What do you think of the trip so far gran?"

"I prefer orange juice with my in-flight breakfast."

Now where’s that free CD you're supposed to get in each packet?"
